Mark your calendar’s! June 20th @ 4:00pm
DKP invades the Historic Main Street in Garden Grove for our annual DKP Pre-Classic Cruise Night. This will be a VW only event held at the longest running car show in Orange County and has plenty of restaurants, many serving “adult beverages”. There is plenty of parking for everyone, so we’ll see you there!

Please note that because this street is open for business daily, there will be NO early parking or reserving spots. PLEASE respect this limitation to avoid disturbing the businesses until the street is closed off at approx. 4:00pm.
Dear DKP,
I’m new to the VW scene and I own a 69 bug that I’ve had for about 5 years now. I was very excited to attend my first VW ONLY cruise in and I hauled my bug up all the way from Ensenada BC, Mexico. I know my car is not a clean and shinny Street car, but it’s built to race Desert Off-Road and we had just finished racing in the Baja 500. Yes I was coming up for the BugOrama, but what a better way to start off my weekend with a Cruise Night. When I arrived there was little space on the street, so someone suggested that I try the side lot, so a cheerfully motored over there.
As I pulled up I was greeted by a club member that just shot off with an attitude and said he was in no way going to let me in. This guy was not talking to me, he was Yelling at me,,,I really thought he was joking,,,but I was told to basically go back to where ever I came from.
I went back and squeezed into a spot, then I was told by one of your Club Members “This is not an Off-Road Show”. Funny,,,according to what I read this was a VW Only Event, and guess what,,,I was driving a 69 VW that was probably more original than most of the cars out there.
I would think, or I thought that shows like this offer up the opportunity to display not just on type of VW, but how all of us have found very different and unique ways to express our passions through the work we have done on our VW’s. I know I was bringing something that was going to be different and most of the general public seemed very interested and they made me feel very welcomed and appreciative in sharing a different side of a VW Bug.
I understand what he was getting at, but in the manor in which he communicated his point was totally off the wall, rude, and unprofessional. Who was he?,,,tall guy, curly gray hair and a cap and his big important camera. I guess he could have said,”Dude, that car’s a mess and looks like it has been through hell! But man, nice off-road bug and it will go places non of these cars will ever go,,,but can you do me a favor,,,meet me over at the end of the street and let’s see what we can do for you because this area is reserved for special street builds, but last thing we want to do is turn you away” or how about this,,,”Sorry man, this area is reserved for Special Street builds, but if we can’t find a spot for you we’ll start using up this section of the parking lot behind you,,,and thanks for making that trip all the way from Ensenada, good to have some variety” But sadly from what I heard and what was told to me, you are only interested in Low, Shinny, street machines that all have motors that look alike with their dual Carb set ups.
So now according to DKP I know where I belong and the last thing I want to do is to bring a bit of Baja Spice to your event. I wish you all the best, and if you ever make it to my end of town we’ll simply give you a hand shake, and welcome you in a part of the VW family,,,that’s how we roll, “Mi Casa es Su Casa…”
God Bless
Dennis
Dennis,
Very sorry to hear about your experience at our cruise night. We had many volunteers, a few were not club members. I can assure you that DKP has always welcomed all air cooled VW’s to all of cruise night since it’s inception. I know exactly which car is yours because I shot and posted it with all the others on our website before you contacted us. I apologize for the treatment you received. Hopefully we will meet at future events and get the opportunity to redeem ourselves. I saw your car at the Classic, I hope you had a great weekend and your journey was worthwhile.
